Keeping Bees for Agriculture Tax Exemption

Did you know that keeping bees on your property could potentially save you money on your property taxes? Landowners keeping bees on their property for ag exemption is becoming increasingly popular.

Step 1: Contact your local ag extension service and/or tax appraisal district for information on eligibility.

Step 2: Buy your bees and equipment from us! We have several start up options to choose from and offer free classes for beekeeping start up. Classes are held every Thursday and Saturday during the month of April, and every Friday during the month of May. All classes begin at 11am.

Bee Purchasing Options:

Option 1: Weaver Buckfast 3lb package bees - Starting at $178 each

While the least expensive, this option does require a little more work and carries a little more start up risk. However, we do offer free classes to help guide you through the process, classes are held in every Thursday and Saturday during the month of April, and every Friday during the month of May. All classes begin at 11am.

Each package will require one hive kit per package to house your new bees, of which we have several options Beginner's Kits.

You'll also need protective gear and beekeeping tools, which can be purchased online or in our store.

Weaver Buckfast 3lb Package Bees must be ordered in advance and are only available in the Spring. In addition to customer pick up, this option can be shipped for an additional shipping fee.

Option 2: Weaver Buckfast 4-frame Nuc - $300 each

While this option is more expensive than option 1, it carries less startup risk. Our 4-frame nuc includes a laying clipped and marked Buckfast Queen, 4 frames of drawn comb, brood, honey, and a division board feeder. We offer free classes to help guide you through the process of installing your bees into their new home. Classes are held in every Thursday and Saturday during the month of April, and every Friday during the month of May. All classes begin at 11am.

As with option 1, new beekeepers will require protective gear and tools, which can be purchased online or at our store.

As with option 1, this will also require the purchase of one hive kit per nuc, to house your new bees.

Weaver Buckfast 4-frame Nucs must be ordered in advance and cannot be shipped, they must be picked up by the customer.

Option 3: Weaver Buckfast Established Colonies - $600 per colony

While this option is the most expensive, it carries the least startup risk. An established colony will be installed in a new one story hive kit, available for you to transport to their new home.

New beekeepers will require tools and protective gear, such as a bee brush, bee smoker, beesuit/jacket, hat and veil, gloves, etc. These products are available for purchase in our store or online. Hive Components & Tools
